In May 2006, EU project Roads2HyCom launched a Registration of Interest for existing and potential ?Hydrogen Communities?. Today Roads2HyCom published the first results from the survey contained in this Communities Registration.
Since launching the survey in May 2006, Roads2HyCom has received 42 Registrations of Interest, of which two-thirds are from existing projects. From analysing the data collected through the survey, two types of projects were apparent; those that were Policy Driven (usually led by the local community or public authorities) and those that were Technology Driven (usually promoted by industry). Nearly 30% of entries were from Germany. Most projects involved hydrogen production, usually from renewable sources. Lack of funding was identified as the main barrier to the development of hydrogen community projects.
Along side the results from the Communities Registration, Roads2HyCom have also published a study investigating the experiences of hydrogen community projects. This study has identified a number of critical factors that have been crucial for project success:
Both reports are available to download from www.roads2hy.com/pub_download.asp.
The Roads2HyCom Communities Registration will remain live during Year 2 of the project (www.roads2hy.com/registration.aspx). The results will be updated as more entries are received.
