In May 2006, EU project Roads2HyCom launched a Questionnaire on hydrogen and fuel cell related research and technology development activity. Today the first results from the Researchers Questionnaire are published on http://www.roads2hy.com/.

Since launching the Researchers Questionnaire in May 2006, Roads2HyCom have received over 300 entries from organisations engaged in hydrogen or fuel cell related RTD activity. Most of the entries received were from within Europe. Therefore this first report focuses on European H2&FC activity.

Half of the entries received were from Germany or UK. The types of organisation that have completed the Researchers Questionnaire range from small independent companies (30%) through to large corporate players (25%) and universities (24%). End applications appear to be the most popular area of research. Of the entries received, 55% received some national R&D funding for their H2&FC research compared with only 43% receiving some EU (Framework) funding.

Along side the Researchers Questionnaire, Roads2HyCom today published the first interim report from their Technology Watch activity. This activity seeks to identify what, when and by whom a future hydrogen or fuel cell related initiative will be introduced by monitoring hydrogen and fuel cell technologies from research through to mass market commercialisation.

Both reports are available to download from www.roads2hy.com/pub_download.asp.

The Roads2HyCom Researchers Questionnaire will remain live during Year 2 of the project. Roads2HyCom invites all organisations engaged in hydrogen or fuel cell related research and technology development to complete this questionnaire on-line at www.roads2hy.com/questionnaire.aspx. Further updates on the results from the Researchers Questionnaire will be published throughout the duration of the project as more entries are received. A final report on the Researchers Questionnaire results will be delivered at the end of the project in September 2008.

The Technology Watch will also be regularly updated throughout the duration of the Roads2HyCom project, with a final report delivered in September 2008.
