Roads2HyCom is developing an analytical methodology to understand the state of the art of technology relative to the infrastructures and resources that will support it, and the early-adopter communities that will use it. The methodology is based on eleven categories of ?metric? which are used to profile each technology.
The 11 metric categories are:
![]() |
Global environmental impacts | ![]() |
Capacity & Performance
![]() |
Local environmental impacts | ![]() |
Societal & Political Acceptance
![]() |
Energy Efficiency | ![]() |
Availability / Accessibility
![]() |
Energy Supply and Security | ![]() |
Potential for Growth | ||||
![]() |
Life Costs | ![]() |
Safety & Risk | ||||
![]() |
Environmental Impacts |
The State of the Art in each technology area can be given a rating against these metrics (and sub-metrics in each category) to create a ?profile?. For the technology to find acceptance with users, that profile has to attain certain thresholds, either in absolute terms or relative to some benchmark.
The nature of infrastructures and resources, and the needs and capabilities of early-adopting communities, have an influence on the level of these thresholds. This is the basis of the Roads2HyCom analytical methodology.
